What Sport is for me?

Everyone is different, these differences can be very important when determining how successful you will be in a sport. Knowing what your strengths and weaknesses are can help you select a sport you can have real success in.

What are these variables;
· body build (bone structure, fast/slow twitch muscle fibre composition)
. Body composition
· stength/flexibility/endurance/power/speed
· agility/co-ordination/balance/reactions
· mental ability/motivation/experience
· age/gender


The combination of the above will determine what physical activity you are naturally suited to.

For example;-

Ectomorph An extreme ectomorph is small and very thin Gymnastics/Jockey
Endomorph Have a heavy pear shaped physique, tendency to gain fat with short limbs Weight lifter / prop forward in Rugby
Mesomorph Have a Y shaped physique, wide shoulders Sprinters/Games players
Most people have a mixture of body types, so here are some other guidelines

Further Details
Tall and thin Powerful legs, poor hand eye co-ordination. Good hand eye co-ordination, can jump well. Good endurance Athletics events such as high jump, triple jump basketball, cross country running/distance running swimming (distance)
Tall and heavily built Strong, Good hand eye co-ordination Rugby second row. Athletics shot put, discus, hammer. Basketball Tall and muscular build Good hand eye co-ordination. Good foot eye co-ordination,agility,endurance. Good hand eye co-ordination, powerful jump. Powerful and quick. Tennis. Football centre back. Basketball. Sprinting/high/long/triple jumper/pole vault/javelin swimming (sprint).

Medium height with light build Good endurance. Strong upper body. Great hand eye co-ordination. Middle/long distance runner rock climbing. Table tennis, Badminton, Tennis, Rounders, Stoolball, Cricket.

Medium height with heavy build Strong Prop forward in Rugby.
Medium height with muscular build Good agility, hand eye co-ordination. Good agility foot eye co-ordination. Power and speed. Rugby back, guard in Basketball, Hockey, Cricket, Rounders. Football. 100m sprinter/long jump.

Short with thin build Strong, flexible Gymnastics, Rock climbing, Trampolining, Jockey
Short with a stocky frame strong Weight lifter, Gymnastics
